I've tried a few of the recipes in this cookbook and they've all been great. Love the idea of three ingredients--makes it so easy to plan dinner. The recipes are simple but sophisticated. The directions are clear, and I like having suggestions for a few extra ingredients that I can throw in if I have them. Overall, a cookbook worth buying.

Tried & True Slow Cooker & Casserole: Top 200 Recipes Review

Tried and True Slow Cooker and Casserole: Top 200 Recipes

I found this cookbook when I was searching on Amazon for crock-pot and casserole cookbooks because I wanted some new EASY recipes. Voila! Two books in one! Since this book is a compilation of the best rated recipes from the site Allrecipes.com, it's like getting each family's absolute best and favorite recipe. Lots of "secret ingredient" finds! Unlike most cookbooks, as I flip through this one, EVERY recipe is a "winner" that my husband and I would like to try. Since each recipe is from a different cook, the cooking styles vary widely throughout the book, unlike a standard book of recipes written by one or a few cooks. I find that in most cookbooks, all the recipes tend to draw from the same set of ingredients and/or always use the same cooking style, so you've really only paid for a few good recipes.
The only drawback to this book is that there are no pictures, since there aren't any on the website either. But reading through each recipe it is very easy to "picture" the dish. The instructions are clear and concise.
Another thing: Some of the recipes are very similar, i.e. a few different lasagna recipes, a couple crock-pot rib recipes. The good part about that is if you don't quite have everything on hand for the first one, you might for the second one! Knowing that now, I still would have purchased the book anyway. This might have bothered me except I think there are actually a few dozen more than the advertised 200 recipes in the book.
The book is divided up into chapters based on the main meat ingredient (i.e. beef, chicken, pork), including a "Meatless Mains" chapter and a side-dish chapter. The chapters are then further separated by crock-pot cooking or oven-baking. Some recipies are maybe only 4 ingredients (for the VERY busy day) and others might be over 20 and a little more complicated, but unique and tasty as a result!
I'm positive this cook book will be used MUCH more than the others that are collecting dust on my kitchen shelf.

The Gourmet Slow Cooker: Volume II, Regional Comfort-Food Classics Review

The Gourmet Slow Cooker: Volume II, Regional Comfort-Food Classics

I like this cookbook better than Alley's first slow cooker book. Because it's regional foods, the recipes are still varied, but the ingredients are a little less exotic. This book contains close to 60 solid recipes with beautiful photography. Best of all, the author admits she tested the resipes on various brands of slow cookers, something that didn't quite happen with the first book.
The intro pages contain useful info. I was pursuaded to whip out a thermometer and test my cooker's low and keep warm settings. I've found that my model runs extremely hot and I'm sending it in for warranty evaluation.

The Everything Healthy Slow Cooker Cookbook (Everything Series) Review

The Everything Healthy Slow Cooker Cookbook (Everything Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Everything Healthy Slow Cooker Cookbook is a welcome addition to my cookbook library. Other crock-pot cookbooks I've checked out from the library rely on processed foods and many unhealthy ingredients that I wouldn't want to serve my family, but this cookbook emphasizes fresh produce, dairy, and meat products that I can buy in the grocery store. Amazingly, this cookbook has two vegetarian chapters - one vegetarian and one for vegan recipes (no dairy products, eggs, or meat). There are other vegan and vegetarian recipes throughout the book, too - not just in those two chapters. I really appreciate that because we entertain vegan friends and it's great to have something delicious to serve them rather than the same-old pasta they get everywhere.

I've tried five recipes from this book so far and every one of them has been really tasty and so easy. (Great to use the slow cooker in summer when you don't want to overheat your house.) The Hot and Sour soup tasted even better than the soup at our local Chinese take-out place. The Strawberry Pandowdy is a really different dessert idea for my family and tasted so good with vanilla ice cream. The Turkey White Chili is so good that I made it twice already. I brought Baba Ganoush and Creamy Low-Fat Spinach Artichoke Dip to a potluck and both were huge hits, gone in minutes. I am going to give this cookbook and a slow cooker to my friends who are getting married this fall. I am looking forward to using this cookbook again and again. Highly recommended to everyone who has a slow cooker.

Art of the Slow Cooker: 80 Exciting New Recipes Review

Art of the Slow Cooker: 80 Exciting New Recipes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great recipe book for slow cookers. It is not a dump and go recipe collection, there is some prep time, usually between 5 (the shortest amount of time) and 20-30 minutes. About 20 minutes looks to be the norm. But by taking this prep time what comes out of your slow cooker is a great meal. The author states that he only wants to give recipes that would be as good made in a slow cooker as if you had made them in a traditional way. What I have made lives up to this expectation.
Also, there are many recipes that I am looking forward to preparing. That is the problem with many slow-cooker books, there just aren't that many recipes that look all that appealing to me - how many different chili recipes do I need? This book has a good selection of recipes that I had not seen before with easy to find ingredients for foods that I think that my family will enjoy. Not that there aren't several company appropriate recipes, because there are, but, there are also great week-night recipes.
I didn't intend to buy another slow cooker recipe book, I already owned 3 or 4 in addition to my collection of other cookbooks, but after seeing this one in a book store and looking through it, I had to have it. I've only made a couple of recipes from it, but both have turned out great, and there are many more that I intend to make.

This is the second book I have bought in the '1001 Recipes' series, and I haven't been disappointed with either one! The recipes in this slow cooker book are delicious, and they are broken down into well-organized chapters. I especially like that there are two chapters for vegetarian recipes...there is something for everyone! Though not explicitly advertised as a low-fat book, this book has recipes that have an aim to be healthy and lower in fat and calories. Every recipe has nutritional information, which is very helpful. I think that the only thing I would change about the book would be to add a breakfast chapter. Other than that, great book!
