I love this book. I love just reading it. It inspires me to use my food processor. Not only are there excellent tips, but terrific recipes I would use daily. When purchasing this book, I wasn't sure if it would be a flop and I was pleasantly surprised. One reviewer referred to the quantity of Jewish recipes. First, I didn't feel this was true and second, our family all kinds of foods: Mexican, Greek, Italian, Spanish, Russian AND Jewish. I am sure they are referring to the passover section at the end. But a lot of these recipes look very good, I would give them a try. The majority of the recipes (and there are many) are cookies, cheesecake, biscuits, marinades, appetizers, dressings, soups, etc. All from various backgrounds, that I would serve to my family DAILY. A lot of common ingredients are used and some not-so-common (but not out this world either). I was more than happy this book and would recommend it to anyone with a food processor.
August 2007 Update:
I still use this book all the time and from it's dog-eared pages and coffee stains you can see it's a favorite on my kitchen counter. One of our favorites is the egg salad recipe. I love using my food processor and I feel it was a good investment. There are so many great recipes in here that have enabled me to learn to use my food processors in so many ways and adapt old favorites of my own. A family favorite I have adapted to food processor friendly is: Chicken Enchiladas - I chop the chicken and onions for the filling and the without even needing to rinse the bowl I process the creamy sauce which is sour cream and cream of chicken soup. This is a great recipe. You can look it up at the Campbell's soup site:)
Update January 2009:
Over the past several months we remodeled our home and included my 'dream kitchen' into the project. I had to pack everything from the main level of our house into boxes and move it all into the garage. During this 'move', sadly, my copy of this book was lost. I have searched and searched but have not run across it yet. This book was a staple in my kitchen and miss it terribly. Today I am ordering another copy. Again, I say, "Money well spent!"
Update: June 2009
Again my favorite cookbook didn't let me down. I was looking for a Pizza recipe to make with the kids and this cookbook had it all starting with the recipe for the crust! We were so pleased, and it turned out fabulous!

This is not just another cookbook. Not only are the recipes divine, but the author's own illustrations are charming and sophisticated.
The Lemon Quick Bread recipe is worth the price of the bookÐ- Light, chewy and delicious, with a zingy lemon flavor coming from both lemon rind, and fresh lemon juice. With sweet pecans and non-fat buttermilk, this recipe was inspired by the angel of Flavor and Texture who also cares about your health! It is low-fat, low-sugar!
For anyone who really loves good food, and wants a sure thing, don't miss this one.

Any of the dishes in this book can serve as the inspiration for a meal and set off a creative chain of delicious possibilities. Fresh Green Pea Soup with Minted Yogurt Cheese is the perfect partner for Spiral Herb Bread with Chive Butter. Chicken Salad with Caper Dressing begs for a quick accompaniment like tender Big Buttermilk Biscuits. Cornmeal Popovers pair up with a savory bowl of Curried Tomato Soup. Lisa Cowden provides more than two hundred recipes for soup, salad, breads, and spreads, creating a nearly limitless set of meals for every season. Her intricate cut-paper illustrations are as artful as the food, and her meditations on art, cooking, and the seasons make this cookbook as pleasurable as it is practical.

Sunday Soup: A Year's Worth of Mouth-Watering, Easy-to-Make Recipes Review

Sunday Soup: A Year's Worth of Mouth-Watering, Easy-to-Make Recipes

Charming little book with a years' worth of soup recipes, arranged by season -- the "Soup Calendar." If you're looking to make something besides your usual chicken noodle soup or chili, this is a good starting point for ideas and inspiration. Some of the soups may be a little sophisticated for children, but for the most part, the recipes aren't complicated nor do they use hard-to-find ingredients.
Some cookbooks are fun to look at, but less appealing once I start surveying the ingredients list and preparation requirements. Not this one. The author doesn't insist on home-made stock or fresh herbs. Although the author includes several home-made stock recipes, she acknowledges the value and quality of store-purchased stockes, and lists Swansons and College Inn as some of her favorites. She recommends easy-to-find items, like McCormick spices, rather than sending you off to hunt down unpronounceable ingredients in an ethnic market.
The recipes are very good and for the most part, not too complicated. There are many purees, and there are quite a few chunky soups shown with thick shavings of parmesan across the top. There's something for everyone in here -- Basic Beef & Barley and other meat-based soups. Thick, creamy purees are the ultimate comfort food in my book, so I particularly like the fall soups featuring root vegetables. Some of my favorites are:
Fall:
Butternut Squash and Apple Soup with Cider Cream
Creamy Stilton Soup with Sauteed Pears
Sweet Potato Soup with Orange Creme Fraiche
Spring:
Heavenly Asparagus Soup wwith Tarragon Cream
Carrot Soup Scented with Sesame and Chicken
Pumpkin Soup with Toasted Walnuts and Rosemary,
Not everyone will like every recipe in this book -- but most folks can find some things appealing, and plenty of inspiration otherwise.
