(More customer reviews)I have several books by the same author so I was keen to add this one to my library. This book differs from its predecessors by including some comments/musings/reminiscences which I enjoyed reading. I liked the idea of a recipe collection built around feast days so that when you want to make something special you can go to this book as a good resource. I also noticed that the author has cut down on the amount of fat in his recipes! I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to people who like cooking and eating good fresh food and want to eat well on special occasions as well as everyday.

(More customer reviews)I've owned this book since it first came out in 1992, and it occupies a special place in my cooking library -- eye-level shelf for easy reach. The salad of tart greens with prosciutto and warm balsamic dressing has been my first course for many outstanding dinner parties, including several on New Year's Eve. Other particular favorites - the lamb, garlic & potato roast, maccheroni with baked grilled vegetables, torta barozzi, and chestnut ricotta cheesecake. Ms. Kasper's outstanding knowledge of this regional Italian cuisine is equally matched by her understanding of how a home chef times and assembles a multi-course meal. I'm now ordering her new book, The Italian Country Table, and hope to be just as impressed.

I bet I have a dozen low-fat or diet cookbooks collecting dust on my shelves because the recipes either don't taste good, they are too difficult to make, or I can't find the ingredients. Everything I have made from this cookbook has been fantastic and quick and easy, too. My husband loves what I cook now, and it is good for us, too. I am planning on purchasing her first Homestyle cookbook and getting rid of all the rest of my low fat cookbooks!
